Aleppo is home to the Stefan Steller-designed Hamdaniya housing development. The 350-hectare estate for 22,000 residents was designed from the ground up in a desert suburban area with special attention to climate issues and green spaces. The buildings are complemented by integrated green areas and water sources. The Polish architect developed the spatial concept, designs for single-family buildings (erected using the traditional method - stone infill on a reinforced concrete frame) and retail/service centres, and concept designs for multi-family buildings for further development by local architects.
