Parish Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Raduń

Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Radun - a Roman Catholic parish located in the diocese of Grodno, in the Radun decanate in Belarus. The parish includes a branch chapel of St. Mary of the Rosary. The parish includes a branch chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Dawn Gate in Podzitwie.

History
The first wooden church in Radun was built in the last quarter of the 15th century. The parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St John the Baptist and St Peter the Apostle was later endowed by Queen Bona in 1556.

It was the centre of a deanery in the diocese (then archdiocese) of Vilnius, now the diocese of Hrodna.

Until about 1774, the parish had one branch in nearby Dubicze (now Lithuania).

A school operated at the parish.

Between 1910 and 1912, and then again between 1922 and 1924, Radun became a place of fierce disputes over the language used in the liturgy between Poles and Lithuanians. As a result of the incidents that occurred in 1923-1924, the church was temporarily closed by the diocesan authorities and the parish was divided among four neighbouring parishes.

Over the centuries, at least five churches stood here, all wooden. It was not until 1929-1933 that the present brick church was built in the "familiar" style - modernist with elements of neo-Gothic, designed by the architect Jan Borowski.

In the interwar years, the parish lay in the Vilnius archdiocese, in the Radun decanate. Before the Second World War it had more than 8,000 worshippers.

During the communist era, the parish was active. After the Second World War, the former wooden church of 1838 was burnt down and had no liturgical function since the new temple was built.
