Paulin Frydman (1905-1982), born in Warsaw, chess player.

In the inter-war years he was one of the leading Polish chess players. In 1926 he won the Polish vice-championship, and in 1935 he came third in the national championship. He triumphed four times in the Warsaw championships. He represented Poland at all the pre-war chess Olympiads in which the Polish team took part, winning ten medals, including team gold in 1930 in Hamburg.

In 1939, while he was in Argentina for the Chess Olympiad, the Second World War broke out. Frydman decided to stay in Buenos Aires, where he continued his career and enjoyed success, including winning a prestigious tournament in 1941. For health reasons, he gradually withdrew from professional competition.

After his career ended, he ran a popular chess café in Buenos Aires, which was often visited by Witold Gombrowicz. In 1978, during the Chess Olympiad in Argentina, he was awarded the 50th anniversary medal of the Polish Chess Federation.
