On 28-30 October 1944, Breda was liberated by General Maczek's 1st Armoured Division. In the Main Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Breda, on the backs of the wooden stalls, there are two bas-reliefs commemorating this event. One shows a Polish soldier disarming a German with the inscription 'Thank you Poles'. The other shows a soldier and a woman on a motorbike with the inscription "1945".
