Polish cemetery in Mbala (Zambia)

A cemetery with Polish quarters, located close to a particular Polish settlement of Mbala, where Polish refugees, the so-called Siberian-Africans, found their way in the 20th century. The cemetery is surrounded by a brick wall and is directly adjacent to the road leading into the area. Near the necropolis, in the area of the former Polish settlement, there is a monument to the White Eagle. The oldest gravestone for which documentation has been made dates from 1943.

The number of Poles buried there is not completely known. Of the 18 graves preserved, it is likely that 4 are British. This is evidenced, among other things, by their different appearance. In 2015, members of a scientific mission from the Centre for the Documentation of Displacement, Expulsion and Resettlement of the Pedagogical University of Krakow renovated the cemetery and the deteriorating monument. In 2020, the cleaning work was carried out by Scout Africa. The cemetery is surrounded by a brick wall, an area of about 1260 m2, the Polish section about 150 m2.
