Monument-column in memory of the fallen

The monument was erected in 1941 in the gardens between Via Flaminia and Viale Tiziano in Rome to commemorate the Italian and Polish soldiers who fell along Via Flaminia and near Ponte Milvio in 1849. These soldiers defended the Roman Republic against French troops.
On each of the four sides of the column's cubic base, there is an inscription. The first shows the general dedication and the initiators of the monument. The second inscription commemorates the fallen defenders from the University of Rome Battalion. The third inscription commemorates the fallen Poles from the Polish Legion who fought under the command of Captain Aleksander Podulak on 15 June 1849. The third inscription recalls the three soldiers who died defending the Milvian Bridge.
