In 1935, a sculpture was unveiled in what is now the People's Park in Budapest commemorating the Polish legions of World War I, and especially the participation of the Hungarian Legion, in which nearly 600 people served between 1914 and 1917.

After the war, the former Hungarian legionaries formed a union, took part in, among other things, legionnaires' reunions in Warsaw and celebrated Polish national holidays.

The monument depicts a legionnaire dressed in military uniform and a coat on his head with a cornet, standing on a symbolically outlined rock. With his left hand he presses the Crown of Saint Stephen to his side, while his right hand holds the hilt of a sabre attached to his left. From under his forward-extending left leg is visible the Polish eagle, which he appears to be protecting. The sculpture, made of limestone and approximately 250 cm high, sits on a perpendicular pedestal approximately 350 high made of sandstone. The pedestal is engraved with an inscription, the letters filled in with black paint: A SZABADSÁGHARC ÉS A VILÁGHÁBORÚ / LENGYEL LÉGIÓI EMLÉKÉRE / ALLITOTTA 1934-BEN / A MAGYAR KEGYELET //.
