In the Prato della Valle square in Padua there is a statue of Stefan Batory, founded by Stanislaus Augustus Poniatowski and made in 1789 by the sculptor Giovanni Ferrari. The inscription states that Batory studied at the Padua academy, which is not confirmed in the sources. The figure depicted does not resemble Batory - its features rather suggest Jan Zamoyski, who may have been the actual prototype for the monument.
