Construction and conservation design of the roof trusses and roofing and tower of St Nicholas Church in Stary Sambor, Ukraine

Information about the object:
The parish in Starý Sambor already existed in 1501 (the first mention of the church). The first church was built of wood; after a fire, a brick church, founded by Queen Bona, stood in its place. Renovated and re-consecrated in 1753, it fell into disrepair over time and was closed in 1881. The neo-Romanesque church that exists today was built in 1890, based on a design by the architect Jablonski of Przemyśl, exclusively with contributions from parishioners. Finishing works continued until the consecration of the church in 1903. During World War I, the building suffered minor damage. After World War II, the church was closed; a factory hall and warehouse were placed inside. In 1991, the church was returned to the parish. In 1994, the main altar, hitherto kept in Mościski, was restored.

Completed works:
The project concerned the execution of a construction and conservation project for the renovation of the rafter framing and roofing and the tower of the church in Stary Sambor.

The documentation included an archive search, an inventory, an expert opinion on the technical condition and conservation work programmes.

Funding: Programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage "Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad".
