Biography:

Rachel (Rahel) Lipstein (Lipstein-Minc, Minc) (1899-1978) - Polish-Jewish poet, writer and educator from Lodz, active in Poland, Germany, Scandinavia, France and Israel. In 1919 she studied pedagogy in Berlin. During her studies, she established contacts with the milieu of Lodz communist women active there - she hung around Dina Matus, Itka Horowitz and Lea Dunkelblum, among others. In the interwar period, she published simultaneously in Łódź and Berlin. In the 1930s she travelled to Scandinavia and France. During the Second World War she was in Croq in Aquitaine and in hiding in Hautefage-la-Tour. Towards the end of the conflict, she was active in the underground, working to save Jewish children. After the war, she worked for L'Œuvre de secours aux enfants [Children's Aid Organisation, OSE] and published books. A few years before her death, she emigrated to Israel.
