Renovation of the monument to Jan Edward Habich and Poles of merit to Peru in Lima

Information about the object:
The monument to Jan Edward Habich and the Poles of merit in Lima was founded with private funds by Peruvians in 1914, who recognised the contribution of Habich and the Poles to the development of the independent country. This group, who arrived in Peru in the second half of the 19th century and the turn of the 20th century, contributed to the modernisation and development of almost every area of the infrastructure of the then young Republic of Peru.

Completed works:
The aim of the project was to renovate the historic monument to Jan Edward Habich, founder (in 1876) of the first Polytechnic on the South American continent, and a group of Polish engineers of merit to Peru. The monument is located in the Polish Park (Parque Polonia) interchangeably also called Habich Park, in the central part of a fenced, guarded square surrounded by greenery in the Jesús María district of Lima. Its author was the French sculptor Libero Valente Perrón.

Funding: Programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage "Protection of Cultural Heritage Abroad".
