Biography:

Robert Nanteuil (1623-1678), born in Reims, French engraver, printmaker and painter. In 1647 he settled in Paris, where he initially specialised in religious compositions and vignettes. In 1658, he was awarded the title of royal draughtsman and from then on concentrated mainly on making engraved portraits. He most often used the copperplate technique, creating images of King Louis XIV, members of his family, aristocrats, and prominent scholars and artists.
