Biography:

Stanisław Kot (1885-1975), historian, pedagogue, politician and social activist. He studied Polish and classical philology at the University of Lviv, where he received his doctorate in 1909. He was active in the Galician organisation "Promień" and the Polish Social-Democratic Party of Galicia and Cieszyn Silesia. In 1920, he habilitated at the Jagiellonian University, where he led a seminar that educated many eminent scientists. He was a co-founder of the Kraków Publishing Company. From 1935, he was affiliated with the People's Party, and participated in the organisation of peasants' protests in 1936-1937. After the outbreak of World War II, he initially helped refugees from Małopolska, and then crossed the Polish-Romanian border. In October 1939, he found himself in France, and from 1940 he was in Great Britain. In Władysław Sikorski's government, he served as Minister of the Interior, engaging in activities for Poles in exile.
