Biography:

Stefan August Loth (1896-1936), born in Grodziec, lieutenant-colonel in the Polish Army, footballer, coach and tennis player.

During the Polish-Soviet War he served in the 36th Infantry Regiment of the Academic Legion. He was gradually promoted in military structures, serving, among others, as Chief of Staff of the 28th Infantry Division and 2nd Staff Officer of the Army Inspector. In 1936, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

From 1919 to 1929, he played for Polonia Warszawa, winning the Polish vice-championship twice (1921, 1926). He was team captain. In 1921, he was included in the Polish national team for its first official inter-state match against Hungary, but did not appear on the pitch. He only played once for the national team - in 1926 against Estonia.

After the end of his career, he became national team selector (1929-1931) and later led the national team twice as interim coach. In 1927, he won the Polish Army tennis championship.

He died in a plane crash in the Bay of Gdańsk together with General Gustaw Orlicz-Dreszer and Captain Aleksander Łagiewski. He was buried in the Evangelical Augsburg cemetery in Warsaw.
