The plaque is located at 15 Mikhailovskaya Street in Zhytomyr, in the place where the main headquarters of the formation of Polish military units in Zhytomyr region was located from July to September 1944. On 16 March 1944, by a decision of the Soviet authorities, the 1st Corps was transformed into the 1st Polish Army commanded by General Zygmunt Berling. Among the soldiers were also residents of Zhytomyr - mainly young Poles. In 2006, on the initiative of the Association of Veterans of the Polish Army of Zhytomyr and with the support of the Polish Senate, the site of the headquarters was commemorated with a plaque.
