Plaque commemorating Poles buried in the basement of St Claudius Church

The church of St Claudius and the convent are located in St Sylvester's Square in Rome. The convent was described by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. The church was a gathering place for Poles, frequented among others by Adam Mickiewicz, who lived nearby in Via del Pozzetto. In this church, on 27 March 1845. Cyprian Norwid received the sacrament of Confirmation and his second name, Kamil. Mother Józefa Karska (1823-1860), co-founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, prayed here. She was buried in this church under the altar of Our Lady of Good Counsel. On 26 May 2000, her ashes were taken to Szymanow. In the sacristy there is a plaque from 1960, listing the people buried in the church. Among the names are Polish names, including Maria Józef Karska.
