Biography:

Tadeusz Piotr Potworowski (1898-1962), born in Warsaw, son of Gustaw and Jadwiga (née Wyganowska), painter, stage designer and pedagogue. He fought in the First World War, the war against the Bolsheviks and the September campaign. He briefly studied architecture, then painting under Konrad Krzyżanowski and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Józef Pankiewicz. In 1924, he left for Paris with a group of Capists, where he also worked in the studio of Fernand Léger. He soon married Magdalena Mańkowska and returned to Poland. After the September campaign he went into hiding and made his way to Sweden, later to the United Kingdom. In London he lectured at the Bath Academy of Art. He returned to Poland at the end of the 1950s and took up a painting studio at art schools in Poznan and Gdansk. In his paintings, he combined colour with geometrising form, and also used collage and textural elements.
