Biography:

Tadeusz Tyszkiewicz (1774-1852), born in Augustów, son of Stanisław Antoni Tyszkiewicz and Ewa Anna Białłozor, Brigadier-General of the army of the Duchy of Warsaw, participant in the Warsaw Uprisings and Napoleonic campaigns. He fought in the war with Russia in 1792, and took part in the Kościuszko Uprising as adjutant to Jakub Jasiński. After the fall of the uprising, he emigrated to France, where he graduated from the school of artillery and engineering.

In the Napoleonic campaigns he served as Napoleon's orderly officer, fought against the Austrians and took part in the Moscow expedition as commander of a cavalry brigade. He was taken prisoner by the Russians and retired after his release. From 1820 onwards, a senator-castellan in the Kingdom of Poland. During the November Uprising, he led the civil authorities in Lithuania. After the fall of the uprising, he settled in exile in Paris.

He was a freemason, a member of the United Polish Brethren lodge. He was decorated with the Virtuti Militari Cross. His ashes were brought to Poland in 1939, in accordance with his will, and buried in the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw.

Hourglass: "The bereaved daughters and family of the late Count Tadeusz Tyszkiewicz, deceased in his 79th year of life, on the 13th of this month and on the 13th of this year, invite the honourable Compatriots to the funeral which is to take place on the 15th of this month, at 11 o'clock in the morning. His body will be taken from his flat at 38, rue Monthabor, to the Church a la Madeleine, and from there to the Père La Chaise cemetery. Paris, 14 April 1852."

ZKwBP, BUJ and BXXCz ref. 6982 vol. 2 s. 427: "notice of a memorial service on the anniversary of his death, i.e. 13 April 1853 at the Church de l'Assomption, to which his daughter, present in Paris, on behalf of all his Familia, friends and countrymen of the deceased, invites (to Mlle Prince Czartoryski), son of Stanisław Antoni hr. Tyszkiewicz hr. Leliwa and Ludwika Białopiotrowicz, husband of Józefa Anna Maria Dowojna-Sołohub, with whom he had daughters Maria (1816-1891) married to Ignacy Łempicki and Józefa (1824-1900) married to Karol Wiktor Wodziński."
