Biography:

Teodor Roszak (1907-1981), born in Poznań, sculptor. At the age of two he emigrated with his family to Chicago, where he began his art education at the School of the Art Institute. Initially he worked in printmaking and painting, but in the 1930s he concentrated on sculpture. Between 1929 and 1930, he was on scholarship in Europe, where he encountered Constructivism and Surrealism. During the Second World War he worked as an aeronautical designer. After the war, he abandoned industrial aesthetics and turned to a more expressive form of sculpture, becoming one of the pioneers of so-called welded sculpture. He participated in prestigious exhibitions in the USA and Europe and his works are in many public collections.
