Biography:

Wacław Komarnicki (1891-1951), born in Warsaw, where he graduated from gymnasium. He studied law and philosophy in Lvov and Tartu. In 1920, he defended his doctoral thesis at the Jagiellonian University. He took part in the Polish-Soviet War. After the outbreak of World War II, he was sent to the NKVD prison camp in Gryazovets. After the German attack on the USSR, he was released and left for Great Britain, where he worked at the University of St Andrews. From 1938 he was a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. During his life in London he was involved in numerous scientific societies.
