Biography:

Władysław Teodor Benda (1873-1948), born in Poznań, son of Jan Szymon Benda, painter, illustrator and designer. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and in Vienna. In 1899 he emigrated to the United States. He produced illustrations for magazines such as 'Life', 'Vanity Fair', 'Hearst's International', 'Cosmopolitan' and 'Vogue'. He collaborated with Polish organisations, including the Kosciuszko Foundation. He designed propaganda posters for the USA and Poland.
