Biography:

Władysław Zahorski (1858-1927), born in Święciany, son of Bronisław and Maria née Zasławska, physician, social activist, publicist, researcher of Vilnius history. After graduating from the medical faculty of the Imperial Moscow University in 1883, he worked as a doctor in Yekaterinburg and later in Chelyabinsk. In 1892, he moved to Vilnius where he and Władysław hr. Tyszkiewicz founded the Society for Emergency Medical Aid. He published articles and studies in many journals. He chaired the editorial committee of the first Polish collective book published in Vilnius after 1863 entitled Z nad Wilii i Niemna. In 1904 he was one of the founders of the Society of Friends of Palanga. In 1906, he organised the Vilnius Society of the Friends of Science, of which he was successively vice-president and president. He received an honorary doctorate from the Stefan Batory University.
