Zbiorowa mogiła legionistów z lat 1919-1920 na cmentarzu katolickim

Putramiszki is one of a dozen or so villages in Latvia where Polish soldiers who died in the Latgale campaign, fought in 1919-1920 to liberate Latvia from the Bolshevik army, are buried.

The Polish soldiers were buried in the local Catholic cemetery. The legionaries' grave has been obliterated over time, but in 1996 its location was confirmed by a local family. The site then needed to be reconstructed and commemorated. The grave is located near the old gate of the said cemetery. At present, a two-metre-high reinforced concrete legionary cross stands at the site, erected by the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites in 1997. It was placed on a low foundation surrounded by paving stones. On the cross, at the crossing of the arms, there is a black stone plaque with an inscription in Polish and Latvian: "The grave of Polish soldiers killed in 1919-1920 for the independence of Latvia".

The renovation of the grave was carried out in 2019. The work was carried out by the Foundation Helping Poles in the East within the framework of a task co-financed from the programme of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage "Sites of National Remembrance Abroad".
