In the municipal cemetery in Narvik there is a grave of 4 soldiers of the Independent Sub-Highland Rifle Brigade (SBSP), which, under the command of General Zygmunt Szyszko-Bohusz, fought together with the Allied forces in May 1940 in the Narvik area. Despite the success, crowned with the capture of the city and the port, the Allies were forced (due to the start of the German aggression against Belgium, the Netherlands and France) to withdraw from Norway. During the fighting, 97 SBSP soldiers were killed (most of them resting in the nearby village of Hakvik). The remains of an unknown Polish airman were also laid to rest in a grave in Narvik cemetery. This grave is located next to the British military quarters. It is fenced with stone posts connected by a chain. An obelisk in the form of 2 lumps has been placed in the central area. On the upper block is a stylised sign of a cross. On the lower one - an inscription in Polish and Norwegian: "TO THE MEMORY OF POLISH SOLDIERS WHO / FELL DURING THE BATTLE FOR NARVIK IN 1940: / KILISCH TADEUSZ, CHAUFFEUR / BORN. 14 I 18, FALLEN 23 V 40 / MAJEWSKI PIOTR, CORPORAL / DD. 15 VII 14, FALLEN 18 V 40 / TRĘBACZKIEWICZ ANDRZEJ, PLATOON COMMANDER / D.O.B. 26 I 18, FALLEN 18 V 40 / UNKNOWN POLISH AIRMAN, FALLEN 1940 / UNKNOWN POLISH SOLDIER, FALLEN 1940. By one of the posts from the grave fence, there is a stone plaque engraved informing that a second cemetery with the graves of Polish officers and soldiers killed in the Battle of Narvik is located in Ankenes (Hakvik) about 12 km away. In 2016. The Council for the Protection of Remembrance of Struggle and Martyrdom funded conservation and construction work at this cemetery. In addition to the SBSP, many Poles also fought at Narvik in the ranks of the French Foreign Legion brigade. Several of them are buried in the same cemetery in the French quarters (including Alojzy Frątnik, Stanisław Kot, Józef Jelaszek, Antoni Leszczyński, Franciszek Brzystek, Wincenty Augustyniak, Stanisław Kotacz).
