On the night of 19 to 20 June 1940, soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Rifle Division fighting in France crossed the Swiss border. They were interned by the Swiss authorities and stayed in that country until the end of the war. One of the internment camps and a military hospital were set up in Wiesendagen. The soldiers lived in a former gymnasium and in a barracks that stood near Bachmann's gardening business. They worked in the fields, replacing the Swiss who had been called up. Some found work with local craftsmen, others continued their studies, interrupted by the war. In the cemetery, next to the wall to the right of the administration building, there is a mass grave of 10 soldiers of the division and a plaque with the names of the deceased. For a number of years the grave was looked after by a veteran living nearby, the former adjutant of the commander of the 2nd DSP, General Bronisław Prugar-Ketling, a native of Drohobych, engineer Adolf Bulkiewicz. The inscription on the plaque reads as follows: "In honour of the deceased soldiers of the 2nd DIVISION OF PASSENGERS / WIESENDANGEN 1940 - 1945 / ZU EHREN DER VERSTORBEN SOLDATEN DER 2. POLNISCHEN SCHÜTZENDIVISION / Strz. BĄKOWSKI FRANC. 1904-1941 / St.strz. PEACH ANT. 1915 - 1944 / Strz. BURLIGA JAN 1900 - 1942 / Ppr. CHLIPALSKI MIECZ. 1898 - 1942 / Cpl.
