Variants of the name:

Accademia Polacca
In 1921, Count Józef Michałowski, a Polish historian and lawyer living in Rome, donated his book collection to the Polish state. The collection was later donated to the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences in Krakow and placed in the Polish Hospice of St. Stanislaus in Rome. In this way, the Polish Library in Rome was established. The collection was repeatedly enlarged thanks to other donors. Since 1938, the Library has been housed in the Doria Palace at Vicolo Doria 2. After the Second World War, it was taken over by the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and adopted its present name of Scientific Station of the PAN in Rome. The Station's library was named after Józef Michałowski. A commemorative plaque dedicated to him was placed at the Library.
