Biography:

Zdzisław Ruszkowski (1907-1991), born in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, son of Wacław and Karolina, painter, spent most of his life in exile in Great Britain.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and Warsaw. In the 1930s, he co-founded the Warsaw art group "Pryzmat" and exhibited his works in Poland. In 1935, he left for France, where he developed his work, also travelling around Europe. During the Second World War he fought in the Polish army in France and then took refuge in the United Kingdom, where he lived and worked until the end of his life. His painting evolved from Post-Impressionism to an individual style, often inspired by nature. In his later years when his eyesight deteriorated, he also took up sculpture. Ruszkowski actively exhibited his work in the UK and Europe.
