Biography:

Zofia Butrymowicz (1904-1987), born in Warsaw, artist specialising in artistic textiles, representative of the so-called Polish School of Artistic Textiles. She graduated from the Municipal School of Decorative Arts and Painting in Warsaw in 1927, and received her diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1960. Butrymowicz's work was characterised by intense, expressive colours and an approach that combined traditional weaving techniques with experiments typical of the second half of the 20th century. Her works have been presented at numerous exhibitions both in Poland and abroad, winning recognition from critics and collectors. The artist's works can be found in the collections of the National Museum in Poznań, the National Museum in Warsaw, the Museum of Textile History in Łódź and in private collections in Europe and the United States.
