Teresa Kunegunda Sobieska (1676-1730), born in Kraków, daughter of John III Sobieski and Marie Kazimiera d'Arquien, royal of Poland, duchess of Bavaria (1695-1726). She did not support the foreign policy of her husband, Elector of Bavaria Maximilian II Emmanuel Wittelsbach, which sought to extend his influence to the south-west at the expense of the neighbouring states of the Reich. After the defeat of the Franco-Bavarian troops in battle against the Imperial English army in 1704, she assumed the role of regent. On 7 November 1704, she signed a peace treaty with Emperor Leopold I, which resulted in the dissolution of the Electorate's armies. After the death of Leopold I, the new Austrian emperor, Joseph I, broke the treaty. As a result, Maximilian II Emanuel was sentenced to banishment and Teresa Kunegunda was forced to reside in Venice from 1705 to 1715. The policy pursued by the Duchess of Venice led to her husband's reinstatement. After the death of her spouse, Teresa Kunegunda moved to Venice in 1727, where she spent the last years of her life.
