Biography:

Wojciech Fangor, born in Warsaw in 1922 as the son of Konrad and Wanda Chachlowski, travelled around Europe during the years, exploring museums in cities such as Paris, Vienna, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples and Istanbul. He spent the period of the Second World War in the countryside, where he benefited from individual drawing lessons given by Felicjan Kowarski and Tadeusz Pruszkowski. In 1946, after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he received a Master of Arts degree. His work from the Socialist Realist period, including the significant 1951 work Mother Korean, gained wide recognition. Later, his interests led him towards abstraction and op-art. In 1961, he decided to emigrate from Poland and five years later settled permanently in the USA, where, among other things, he designed the interiors of schools in Brockton and Lynn (Massachusetts). The year 1970 brought him a solo exhibition at New York's Guggenheim Museum, an incredible achievement for an artist of Polish origin. In 1999, Fangor returned to his homeland. He has received numerous prestigious awards for his artistic achievements and his works are present in the most important galleries, museums and private collections around the world.
