Biography:

Leonard Winterowski (1868-1927), Polish painter. He graduated from the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts in 1897 under Teodor Axentowicz, and also studied in Vienna. In his earlier artistic output, he created mainly genre paintings, portraits and landscapes. In 1913, he created Stations of the Cross in the Holy Spirit Collegiate Basilica in Przeworsk. During the First World War he was a war correspondent, which inspired him to take up battle themes. In an expressive way, he mainly depicted events from the Polish-Bolshevik war. He exhibited his works in Krakow, Warsaw, Vienna and Berlin, among others. He most often created in oil and watercolour.
