Biography:

Leonard Winterowski (1868-1927), Polish painter. He graduated from the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts under Teodor Axentowicz in 1897 and also studied in Vienna. At an earlier stage of his artistic career, he created mainly genre paintings, portraits and landscapes. In 1913, he realised the Stations of the Cross in the Holy Spirit Collegiate Basilica in Przeworsk. During the First World War he was a war correspondent, which inspired him to take up battle themes. In an expressive way, he mainly depicted events from the Polish-Bolshevik war. He exhibited his works in Krakow, Warsaw, Vienna and Berlin, among others, usually in oil and watercolour.
