Czeczelnik Cemetery

The cemetery in Čeczelnik is located in the north of the town on the left side of the road to Žabokryček. It has existed since the first decades of the 19th century. The oldest inscription comes from a monument in the form of a column topped with a cross on the grave of the local parish priest, Jan Teodor Nowohrebecki, who died in 1820. Several gravestones from the 1830s and 1840s have also survived. According to Zbigniew Hauser, the gravestone of Edward Zaleski stands out for its high artistic level. It has the shape of a column of grey marble entwined with a garland, with drapery and a diagonally placed inscription scroll and a vase on top. The whole is surrounded by a cast-iron fence. Most of the gravestones are crowned by crosses, but some other forms have been preserved: a magnificent monument topped by an obelisk, a gravestone and a Podolia cross. The latter has no date, but is probably one of the oldest gravestones. Some of the tombstones bear elaborate, sometimes rhymed inscriptions. The author described more than 40 tombstones and mentioned numerous unidentified tombstones with obliterated inscriptions. According to Hauser, the cemetery is quite thanks to the parish priest and parishioners. Its plan is orderly, with the most interesting and magnificent grave monuments along the main avenue. The centrepiece of the necropolis is the neo-Gothic cemetery chapel where 12 members of the Sobański family are buried. Elements of neo-Gothic interior design have been preserved in the building. Also in the chapel there are 6 epitaph plates of members of this family. Unfortunately, they have been obscured by radiators, except for one in Latin.

The cemetery is active, as evidenced by the few contemporary tombstones, the last from the 1990s.
