Cemetery in Klecko

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Lewkowski and Walczak, the Catholic cemetery in Klecko has an irregular polygonal plan and an area of 3.6 ha. It is surrounded by a metal and concrete fence. "The whole area comprises three cemeteries. To the south, an old Orthodox cemetery established in the first half of the 19th century, with a wooden cemetery chapel (...). To the north, a new cemetery with post-1945 modern burials. In the centre of the site, 40 m north of the cemetery chapel, is a former Catholic cemetery, established in the 1st half of the 19th century. The boundaries of the cemetery are difficult to determine." The oldest gravestone, dating from 1832, crowns the burial place of the Kusin family. The inscription from it reads "GRÓB FAMILY / KUSIN / R. 1832". According to the cited researchers, "the largest number of surviving tombstones is located on the hill, east of the alley running north-south. These gravestones, mostly in the form of stone slabs, date from the 1st and 2nd half of the 19th century." The cemetery also contains a mass grave of soldiers of the 9th Border Protection Corps battalion who died during the battle against the Soviets in 1924-1925. It has the form of a fieldstone mound with a cross. The inscription reads: "S. P. / TO THE PRIVATES OF THE 9TH BAON KOP / WHO DIED A HEROIC DEATH AT THE BORDER POST". The website dzieje.pl reports that the plaque was renewed in 2017. (cf. https://dzieje. pl/aktualnosci/bialorus-upamietniono-zolnierzy-kop-w-klecku )
In 2017 on the website support.to Jerzy Jan Jarucki organised a successful collection for the restoration of the cemetery (cf. https://wspieram. to/cmentarzwklecku ).
