A village situated north-east of Buczacz, on a tributary of the Strypa River. The name of the village appears in documents from 1420 and 1578. In 1790, the estate was owned by Jan Potocki, and at least in the 1830s-50s by Meliton Pieńczykowski. From around the mid-19th century until World War II Novostawiec was owned by the Czajkowski family (coat-of-arms Gryf) - first Mikołaj married Rozalia of Potrowicz, then their son Władysław Wiktor (1844-1917), and after him Michał. In 1882, a stone church dedicated to St John Cantius was built, which became the parish church in 1911. The temple was built through the efforts of Rev. Jozef Gromnicki, and in 1913 his successor Rev. Jozef Bodarski
rebuilt it. The church was destroyed in 1944 as a result of artillery shelling. After the war it was almost completely demolished. In the village there is still a statue of the Virgin Mary from 1908, which was founded by Franciszek Kocuj
. with his wife. In addition, in the village there is the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas built in 1835 and renovated in 1906. The new cemetery was probably established after 1900. 7 Polish tombstones have been preserved, the oldest one of Jozef Licznar (died 1915).
