Stolptsy cemetery

Catholic cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Documentation (10 sheets) and a plan (stored in the ICDNS) have been produced for the cemetery. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).

According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, "the active Catholic cemetery is located in the centre of the village surrounded by urban development. Situated on a flat area, it is fenced in with a mesh fence with an entrance from the south-western side and occupies an area of approximately 1 ha. It is rectangular in plan with a short alley on the southern side of the cemetery running approximately 30 m into the cemetery. The cemetery was established in the second half of the 19th century. Only a dozen or so gravestones from this period have survived. Today, modern Orthodox burials predominate in the cemetery." The oldest gravestone, from 1870, has the form of a rectangular slab with the inscription: "Ś. P. JAN SUCHEŃ / UM. 8 APRIL. 1870 R." Also noteworthy is the inscription: "POLSKIM KOMUNISTROM / WALERJU BAGIŃSKAMU / I ANTONIJU WIECZARKIEWICZU / PA ZLADZIEJSKU ZABILITY / BIEŁAPOLSKAJ AHRANKAJ / 29 SAKAWIKA 1925 GODA / OD PRACOŁNYH G. STOŁBCY".
According to the aforementioned authors, there was also a Jewish cemetery in Stolptsy before the Second World War, but nowadays there is a machine base on its site.
