Zaslavl cemetery (Catholic "old")

The Catholic cemetery in Zaslavl, known as the "old" cemetery, was established in the early 19th century. It is located in the western part of the town on the right-hand side of the road that leads to Ostrog. Its area is approximately 1.0 ha. The cemetery is accessed through a heavily damaged brick cemetery gate with a semicircular arch above the entrance, topped with a triangular gable, preserved with a fragment of a wall. The 'old' cemetery, although presenting exceptional value, was neglected at the time Hauser described it and its deterioration was still progressing.

The author of the study noted that this necropolis is one of the most interesting in Volhynia because of the almost monumental gravestone monuments preserved there. From a distance, one can see a monument on the grave of Achilles and Czesław Witowski, dating from the mid-19th century, crowned with a huge crucifix, measuring around 10 metres. Not much lower is a cast-iron gravestone in the shape of a neo-Gothic chapel decorated with arcades and turrets and surrounded by a decorative cast-iron fence. It belongs to Leon Kirschner, who died in 1907. The cemetery also contains many very impressive grave monuments: columns and rocks topped with a cross, grave slabs, pedestal crosses and obelisks of both stone and cast iron. Hauser lists 42 inscriptions in Polish in his publication. Also worth mentioning after Hauser is the gravestone in the form of a three-storey monument topped with an obelisk, erected to Eleonora née Lewandowska, known only by her maiden name, who died in 1848. The monumental monument is decorated with an unusual frieze of 12 different relief masks.
