Biography:

Innocenta Gierszewicz (1883-1947), born in Ostrów Mazowiecka. She belonged to the Congregation of the Sisters of St Elizabeth. On 10 March 1931 she arrived in Jerusalem, together with two other sisters: Augustyna Skibińska and Blanka Szwonka, with the aim of taking charge of the Polish House. Innocenta became the House's Superior. She successfully ran the hospice, which was refurbished during her time. Through her efforts, including fundraising, Innocenta led to the purchase of land for the second site of the Polish House. In 1947 she left for Poland summoned by the religious authorities and Primate August Hlond. During her stay in the country, she fell ill and died there.
