Biography:

Jan Cieplak (1857-1926), born in Dąbrowa Górnicza, son of Jacenty Cieplak and Julianna née Bugajska. He graduated from the gymnasium and seminary in Kielce. Then, in 1882, the Spiritual Academy in St Petersburg. He was ordained a priest in 1881. A patriot, he was repeatedly punished for voicing pro-independence views. In 1923, during a show trial, he was sentenced to death. However, the punishment was changed to 10 years' imprisonment, but he eventually returned to Poland in 1924.
