Vorochta and Zakopane, although different and distant, are both the birthplace of Polish skiing.

In the interwar years, Vorochta was a well-known and recognised health resort, which was visited by crowds of leisure-seeking summer visitors, mountain hikers and skiers. The ski jumping hill built here was the first professional facility of its kind in Poland. It was built three years earlier than Wielka Krokiew in Zakopane. It was eagerly visited by representatives of the Polish financial, political and artistic elite.

Today, only photographs, guidebooks and memoirs testify to the glory days of Vorochta. Despite its great popularity between the wars, the town has not yet had an album publication devoted solely to it. Admittedly, it has been mentioned in some publications commemorating the towns and villages of the eastern areas of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth or in guides to cultural monuments in Ukraine, as well as in descriptions on websites. However, we hope that Dr Jan Skłodowski's book devoted entirely to Vorokhta fills this gap.
