Biography:

Józef Gosławski (1865-1904), born in Warsaw. He completed his higher education at the St Petersburg Institute of Civil Engineering. Subsequently, in 1890, he started working for the Building Technical Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 1891, he moved to Baku. There he supervised the construction of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. In 1892 he became the city architect of the same city. In parallel, he worked on private commissions. He realised a great number of them and was an architect extremely respected in Baku. He designed, among others, the Building of the Baku Technical School on Stanislavskaya Street, the Building of the Female Muslim School on Nikolaevskaya Street, the Tagiyev Theatre Building on Merkurievskaya Street.
