Chapel of Joan of Ponine

A free-standing, orientated, brick building, of irregularly shaped blocks of local red sandstone, originally rendered inside and out. Set on a roughly square plan, single-spaced. Situated on a plinth. and covered by a gabled, tiled roof, in the centre of which is originally a bell. The exterior of the chapel is flanked by a cornice. On the axis of the façade is a rectangular entrance opening. The side walls are pierced by two symmetrically placed window openings of semicircular shape with rectangular window clearances. The interior without wall articulation is closed with a cross vault. On the altar wall, a preserved masonry mensa with a stipe decorated with a low-relief, elongated, oval frame, in which a chalice and host, and a cross and anchor crossed below. Above the mensa an illusionistic architectural structure in the form of a niche framed by pilasters. In its central field is painted a blind window framed by a moulded band, with a rectangular panel below. At the top there are hanging curtains with parted sections. On the western wall above the entrance there is a painted inscription framed.

Comments on the state of preservation and visible restoration:

Poor state of preservation, damaged roof and floor. Mostly unmaintained external and internal plaster. Water enters the interior through a hole in the place of the unpreserved bell tower. A hole dug in the floor into the bare crypt. The chapel is overgrown with vegetation.
