Casimir Pac (c. 1650 - 1750), Kazimieras Pacas The bishop of Samogitia, appointed in 1667 X 3, did not arrive in Varna until 1969 VIII 19 and settled in Alsėdžiai. Collected by the bishop. The bylaws of the synods convened by J. Tiškevičius were combined into one collection. Pastors were encouraged to learn the Lithuanian language. A new brick cathedral was built in Varniai(1691), set with large bells, donated a gold monstrance decorated with diamonds, a gold tongue and other church utensils, a valuable cross and a silver St Casimir's Memorial cross to the cathedral. During K. Pacas' bishopric, churches were built in Gaure, Šatė, Šakyna and an altar was erected in Plateliai. He was disobedient to heretics, fought against reprehensible customs, and organised begging: he ordered the true weary to wear certain signs, allowed them to travel around the parishes and choose alms, and those who could work to beg. He was given the task of governing the Curonian diocese. He is buried in the crypt of the bishops' cathedral in Varniai.
