Biography:

Marian Józef Zdzisław Charmanski (1859-1924), Polish architect and engineer, active mainly in Kharkov. A graduate of the Institute of Civil Engineers in St Petersburg. He designed both public and sacred buildings. He moved to Kharkiv in 1980. From 1895 to 1917 he was the Kharkiv gubernatorial engineer of the Kharkiv land cultivation. One of the designers of the city's buildings, he also managed the commission for the city's sewers and the construction of the city's merchant bank. Honorary member of the Kharkiv Gubernial Welfare Association of the children's shelters of the Imperial Maria Resort. From 1911 to 1918 he taught architectural drawing at the Technological Institute of Emperor Alexander III. In 1919 he settled in Warsaw, and in 1922 in Vilnius, where he was appointed the first director of the State Technical School.
