Biography:

Stefan Tomasz Eichler (1892-1980), born in Sosnowiec, died in Wrexham, qualified lieutenant-colonel in the cavalry of the Polish Army, legionary, starosta of Augustów and Stolpek, minister in Aleksander Zawisza's government in exile. He studied at the Institut Polytechnique in Glons (Liège). A member of the Riflemen's Association, he was a soldier in the 1st infantry regiment of the Polish Legions, the 1st lancer regiment, and the 7th Lublin lancer regiment. He completed the lancer cavalry officer course in Ostrołęka. After the oath crisis, he was interned in Szczypiorno, and later in Łomża (he escaped in March 1918). In 1922, he attained the rank of lieutenant. He served in Grudziądz, Warsaw and Suwałki. After 17 September 1939, he left for Lithuania, where he was interned in a camp in Wyłkowyszki, then sent to camps in Kozielsk and Griazowiec. He left the Soviet Union with the Anders Army. After the Second World War, he remained in exile. He was a member of the Third Council of the Republic and the Main Commission of the National Treasury, Minister of National Affairs (1966), Fourth Council of the Republic of Poland. In 1966, he was appointed lieutenant colonel in the cavalry officer corps.
