Biography:

Walenty Wańkowicz (1799-1842), born in Kaluga, son of Melchior Wańkowicz and Scholastika of Gorecka (coat of arms Dołęga). From 1811 to 1817 he studied at the Jesuit college in Polotsk. He then studied at Vilnius University, at the Faculty of Literature and Liberal Arts. He was a member of the Philaret Society. In 1821, he created a portrait of Adam Mickiewicz. In 1822, he graduated from a painting academy in Vilnius. He received a scholarship to study at the St Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts. His most famous work is the Portrait of Adam Mickiewicz on the Judah Rock .
