Biography:

Wanda Halina Rutkiewicz-Błaszkiewicz (1943-1992), Polish mountaineer and Himalayan climber. In 1978, she was the third woman in the world and the first European to conquer Mount Everest, and in 1986 she was the first woman to climb K2. An electronics engineer by profession. She disappeared in May 1992 while climbing Kanchendzonga.
