Adam Mickiewicz (1798-1855), born in Zaosie or Nowogródek, son of Mikołaj Mickiewicz of the Poraj coat of arms and Barbara née Majewska, Polish poet, publicist, political activist, graduate of the Imperial University of Vilnius, founder of the Philomath Society, teacher of a gymnasium in Kaunas, author of poems, verses and dramas including: "Ode to Youth", "Ballads and Romances", "Dziady", "Pan Tadeusz".
