Graves of Home Army soldiers

The Catholic cemetery in Swieciany, on Lyntupska Street, contains the graves of the Bukowski family. The grave field surrounded by a metal fence contains, among others, the resting place of Home Army soldier Aleksander Bukowski from the 4th Brigade of the AK, who fell on 7.07.1944. The inscription on his grave reads: "Ś+P / Aleksander / Bukowski / "Bohun" / soldier of the AK IV / Brigade died / in battle for / the Fatherland near / Vilnius / 7. 07. 1944".
Also buried in Swieciany in the same cemetery was an NN soldier of the 4th brigade of the Home Army, severely wounded on 13.07.1944 in the battle of Krawczuny. During an inspection of the cemetery, carried out by employees of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2024, this grave was not found.
Both soldiers died in the fighting against the Germans, carried out as part of the Operation "Ostra Brama", aimed at liberating Vilnius and the surrounding area from German occupation.
