The statue stands at the main entrance to the art museum in Pampulha – housed in the former casino building. The sculpture was created by August Zamoyski between 1940 and 1943, whilst he was living permanently in Brazil, working as a teacher in Rio de Janeiro. The statue depicts a young, pensive woman. The sculpture is made of bronze, stands approximately 2 metres tall and rests on a stone beam supported by two corbels.
